Play for a day is aimed at anyone (18+) who has never acted before or not for a very long time. It is run by two actors who will share exercises and techniques that they experience in their own professional careers.

The day course will introduce to you the elements that every actor needs.

Voice development, confidence in performance, physicality, improvisation and text work but overall it’s a day for you to play and have lots of fun.

Each course is different because we want to design the course around you, so we’re not going to give you a dot to dot of the day, it’s wait and see.

Why do it?

Indulge in your creative side and do something just for yourself and as we’ve said already a day for you to play and have lots of fun; you don’t ned much else in life.

Scenes from a play.

for anyone that would like to develop and learn new ways of approaching text.

scenes from a play is a weekend course aimed at anyone aged 18+ who has previous acting experience.  It’s run by one of our professional actors who will share exercises and techniques that they experience in their own professional life.

The course will first remind you why you enjoy acting, developing your core skills and encouraging you to be yourself as much as possible.

You’ll experience a tiny bit of everything: voice development, confidence in performance, physicality, improvisation and text work.  Text work is the key and a play will be chosen before the course begins, participants notified and this text will be hammered home in two days.

Why do it?

Our courses have assisted many people into the industry and we have strong links within the industry as a consequence.  In the final hours of the course, the group will be joined by Gemma Lloyd the owner of act up who also runs an agency and produces in the industry to advise on people’s career paths; either via drama school or ‘straight in’.

Any questions, let us have them, but overall if the course feels right for you then we reckon you should take it.

Dates: A weekend, 11.00am-6.00pm both days. Next start date – we run this course on demand for you and your friends or colleagues. Minimum number is six people, so contact us with several dates and we’ll take it from there.

workshops – for professional actors.

workshops for actors : get practical advice and continue to explore and develop your skills

Contents
Designed to give actors the valuable opportunity to seek practical advice and to continue to explore and develop their skills in a secure, non-judgemental environment.

We believe that the best person to run a workshop is someone who knows the profession and its experiences from first hand. The people that are invited to run the workshops are encouraged to design them around their own interests and expertise.

“I’ve attended a fair few act up courses over the last ten years and every one of them has been an enlightening experience. Excellent tutors, fascinating and talented tutees and challenging workshops make for invaluable training in any area of the industry from writing to directing to performing. The opportunity for people who love the performing arts to partake of such well planned and yet liberating explorations of creativity within the realm of storytelling is the reason the courses are so successful. Cheers to Gemma et al!”
– Lesley
